Guozijian, also named the Imperial College, is located on Guozijian Street in the Dongcheng District of Beijing. It covers an area of about 28,000 square meters and its neighbors are Confucian Temple and Lama Temple (Yonghe Gong).

Beijing Guozijian

Beijing Guozijian was established in the first year of Emperor Zhida’s reign of the Yuan Dynasty. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, it was called Beiping Jun Xue, but was renamed Guozijian in the second year of Emperor Yongle’s reign of the Ming Dynasty. During the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, the college was the heart and soul of China's highest educational administration.

Guozijian

The entire domain of Guozijian is orientated north to south and the buildings are mainly divided into three parts: the middle, east, and west courtyards. In the middle courtyard are Jixian Gate, Taixue Gate, Glazed Memorial Arch, Piyong Hall, Yi Lun Hall, and Jing Yi pavilion, all located on the central axes. There are also 10 comparatively small rooms in the east and west courtyards, of which the rooms in the west once served as classrooms.
