Datong Weather

Datong has continental monsoonal climate in the North Temperate Zone with the annual average temperature of 5.5°C. The climate in Datong is very distinctive with four seasons because it is located on the vast areas of the Loess Plateau: windy and warm in spring, hot and dry in summer, cool in autumn and cold and dry in winter. The hottest month is July with the temperature of 37.7℃ and the coldest month is in January with the temperature of -16℃. The temperature differences vary greatly between the day and the night. The annual precipitation is about 400 mms in Datong, which is mainly concentrated in July, August and September. It has 100-156 frost-free days each year. The best time to visit it is from May to October.
