The Six Banyan Temple and Flower Pagoda

The Six Banyan Temple and Flower Pagoda is a famous Buddhist temple, located at Chaoyang North Road in Guangzhou. With 1400 years of history, it’s also one of the famous monuments in Guangzhou.

Architectural features:
After entering by the mountain gate, you will see the first hall called Tianwang Hall. The Laughing Buddha is there with smile all over his face to welcome visitors. Behind it is the Weituo Hall. According to legend, Weituo recaptured the Buddhist relics which had been stolen. He has a strict face which looks very serious and frightful, in distinct contrast with the Laughing Buddha. He is distinguished with Laughing Buddha.

The architecture that catches the visitors' eyes most is the Six Banyan Pagoda. It is a pagoda where Buddhist relics are placed. Its roof is curved upwards which looks like dark- red flower petals. The tip of the pagoda is like stamens, while the whole construction looks like a huge stigma high in the air. Therefore, people like to call it the Flowery Pagoda. With a nice appearance, the pagoda provides visitors a good place to overlook enchanting scenery around.

Six Banyan Temple

In the west of the Six Banyan Pagoda there is Daxiong Baodian Hall - the main hall of the temple. The three copper Buddhist statues are considered among the biggest and most ancient Buddhist statues in Guangdong. The middle one is Sakyamuni. On the left lies the Amitabha and on the the right, there is the Apothecary Buddha. Many people queue up to pray for the bless and protect of the Buddha for a better next year.
Burning joss sticks is a big event you will see when visiting the temple. Thus on the Chinese traditional Spring Festival and Lantern Festival each year, the temple becomes a busy area. Numerous people queue to burn the first joss stick in order to be blessed by gods in the coming year.

Opening hours: 8:00-17: 00
Transportation: you can take bus No. 56 and 58 and get off at the Six Banyan Temple Station.
