Yuexiu Park

Yuexiu Park is the largest comprehensive park, located in the downtown of Guangzhou. Covering an area of 860,000 square meters (212.5 acres), the park consists of three artificial lakes and seven Yuexiu hills, hence obtained the name Yuexiu Park.

Yuexiu Park is a place of blend of cultural relics and ecological tourism, famous for cultural relics as well as its wonderful water and lovely hills. The main scenic spots are the stone sculpture of the Five Rams, Zhenhai Tower, and the site of the Ming Dynasty City Wall and Square Cannon Site.The Five-Ram Sculpture is one of the most famous structures in Guangzhou. It has become the emblem of Guangzhou City. There is a beautiful legend about the sculpture. According to the story, more than 2,000 years ago, Guangzhou was a barren land where people suffered from famine even they worked very hard. One day, with legendary music, five immortals on five-color garments flew to this city by riding five rams. Each ram held a bunch of corns in their mouths. The immortals left the corns for the Guangzhou people, blessing them everlasting fertility. The rams turned into stone while the immortals disappeared in the sky. Since then, the city of Guangzhou became a rich and populous place. That is why Guangzhou is also called "Goat City" or "Corn City". 

There is a stadium in the south of park which can accommodate over 30,000 spectators while in the west there is a natatorium that can accommodate 5,000 spectators. And the open square has sports room, open-air badminton courts, table tennis courts, basketball courts, an open-air dance floor and other activities projects.
