Daxu Ancient Town

Daxu Ancient Town, located at the east bank of the Li River about 18km (11.18 miles) southeast of Guilin, is one of the four famous historical towns in Guangxi province dating back to A.D.200. It is a hub of waterway transportation, as well as a distribution center of fair trade.

Features:

The ancient stone street there, about 2 kilometers (1.24 miles), runs through the town with well-preserved ancient buildings on both sides. Those buildings were designed in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) with a history of over 1000 years.

There are still a number of workshops, traditional funeral supply shops, Chinese medical clinic, and barber shops. Local residents still keep their traditional handcraft businesses like shops selling rice wine and homemade bamboo baskets. As for Chinese medical clinic, it has historical chests of herbal medicine. The road is paved with dark green lime stones, which have become smooth through the wear and tear of use.
 

Landscape:

While visiting the town, tourists surely go to visit the Longevity Bridge (Wanshou Bridge). It is a unique scenic spot with beautiful landscapes.

The Longevity Bridge, built in the Ming Dynasty (1638-1644), is a single-arched bridge, which look simple and elegant. With the Li River at its west side, it is an excellent place to appreciate the charming scenery of the river. And you can also enjoy the views of the Millstone Hill and Snail Hill nearby in the opposite bank of Li River.

Other attractions:

With long history and enchanting scenery, the town is famous for its traditional culture and customs. During the Dragon Boat Festival, you can appreciate dragon boat race, which is one of the traditional projects. You can also enjoy Guangxi drama and other traditional programs, as well as local snakes. Visiting Daxu Ancient Town during fesitivals will leave you an unforgettable impression.

2. It is about 15km (9.32miles) from the suburb of Guilin to Daxu Ancient Town.
3. You can take the shuttle bus bound for the Crown Cave from Guilin Bus Terminal and it only takes about 40 minutes.
