Transportation

The city of Guilin is located in the north of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of Southwest China, along the banks of picturesque Li River. Due to its many stunningly beautiful landscapes, Guilin is one of the most famous tourist destinations in China with countless visitors flocking to the area every year. As well, it is one of the major transportation centers of several provinces in Southwest China. The city’s comprehensive transportation network makes it incredibly convenient for visitors to get in and around.

 

  • Flights: Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (KWL) is located about 28 kilometers southwest of Guilin’s city center. There are scheduled flights every day to major cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Xi’an, Guangzhou, Kunming, Guiyang, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Dalian, Qingdao, Xiamen, and Sanya. International flights are also available, linking Guilin with Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei and Kaohsiung in Taiwan, Singapore, Seoul in South Korea, Fukuoka in Japan, Bangkok in Thailand, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
  • Highways: Land transportation to nearby counties, cities, and provinces is frequent and convenient. There are 3 bus stations in Guilin, but the major one is the Guilin Long-Distance Bus Station, which is located in the south of the city center and only 10 minutes’ walk north of Guilin Railway Station. You can take public bus No. 5, 9, 10, 11, 16, 22, 88, 91, 99, or 100 to get to the Guilin Long-Distance Bus Station.
  • City Transportation: Taxi Guilin is a small city, so using a taxi for getting from one place to another is very convenient and relatively inexpensive. In the daytime (6:30 am-11:00 pm), the initial charge is 7 yuan for the first 2 kilometers, then 1.6 yuan for each additional kilometer within a distance of 4 kilometers, and 2 yuan for each additional kilometer after a distance of 4 kilometers. At night, the initial charge is 7.8 yuan for the first 2 kilometers and 1.8 yuan for each additional kilometer within a distance of 4 kilometers, and 2.4 yuan for each additional kilometer after a distance of 4 kilometers. Note that for each trip, you will need to add an extra 1 yuan as a fuel surcharge fee to the fare shown on the meter.
  • Waterway: Guilin is extremely known for its unique karst landscapes and beautiful waterway system. For tourism purposes, there are 2 kinds of cruises available for enjoying the area’s natural beauty: the Li River Cruise and Guilin City Waterway Cruise.
