Hangzhou Attractions
A land full of beauty and potential, Hangzhou is one of the seven ancient capitals of China with a history of over 2,200 years, and it is one of the famous historical and cultural cities approved by the State Council of China. It is famous for its time-honored cultural relics and intriguing natural sceneries as well as its colorful folk customs. Another incredibly famed destination in Hangzhou is the West Lake Scenic Area, an area so blessed by splendor that countless artists and writers throughout history have immortalized it in their works. Centered by the legendarily beautiful West Lake, the scenic area is divided into the Huxin District, Hubin District, Beishan District, Nanshan District, and Qiantang District, covering a total area of 5.6 square kilometers. Surrounded by long stretches of mountains in the north and south, the West Lake Scenic Area itself is mainly composed of 1 mountain, 2 causeways, 3 islands, 5 lakes, and 10 scenic spots. The 10 scenic spots refers to Orioles Singing in the Willows, Lingering Snow on the Broken Bridge, Dawn on the Su Causeway in Spring, Leifeng Pagoda in the Sunset, Linyin Temple, the Imperial Street of the Song Dynasty, Hefang Street, Xixi National Wetland Park, Future World, and Hangzhou Paradise. Beyond these, the Nanshan mountain chain lies southwest of the lake and includes attractions such as Dragon Well Mountain, Li’an Mountain, Nangao Peak, Yanxia Mountain, Daci Mountain, Phoenix Mountain, and Nanping Mountain. As well, the Beishan chain is north of the West Lake and includes Lingyin Mountain, Beigao Peak, the Female Immortal Mountain, and Gem Mountain. The mountains and the rivers among all this well complement one another, truly making Hangzhou a paradise on the Earth.
But Hanghzou is not only famous for its natural wonders. Within its urban grounds, there are many distinguished streets of interest including Qinghefang Pedestrian Street, Hefang Street, the Imperial Street of the Southern Song Dynasty, Silk Street, and Zhongshan Central Road, along which visitors may find unique specialties and souvenirs to remind them of their trip to China.
