Ice Lamps in Zhaolin Park

Located in the center of Harbin, the Zhaolin Park was built in 1909 in memory of the Anti- Japanese Coalition Force general Li Zhaolin with the Senlin Street in the south, the Shanzhi Avenue in the west and the Outer Ring Road in the north, covering an area of 8.4 hectares in total, where the Harbin Ice Lamp Garden festival is held once a year, and there are 24 sessions of ice lamp art exhibits held in the park all together since the first session in 1963, attracting more than 25,46 millions of visitors in total.

The main features of the Ice Lamps in Zhaolin Park

The Zhaolin Park has become a famous outdoor site for holding the ice lamp garden festival in Harbin in the largest scale, in which the outdoor ice lamp art works are exhibited. From January 5th to the end of February every year, there are more than 1,000 ice lamps are exhibited in the park, so the park becomes the world of ice and the ocean of lamps in each winter. The local people make fully use of the ice and snow in Harbin with their intelligence and diligence as well as the advanced science and technology, creating the colorful and exquisite works of arts of different shapes and sizes. When the night falls, all the ice lamps are shining brightly in the park, which are just like the three-dimensional paintings and the rich poems as well as the concretionary music, giving the visitors a deep sense of aesthetics and displaying a mysterious wonderland to the visitors, and the ice lamp art works are called “the Never Duplicated Tales” by the local poeple.

Since 1985, visitors can not only take part in the ice lamp garden festival and appreciate all different kinds of ice sculptures, but also they can participate in the sport activities held in the garden, for example: taking an ice ship, skating, attending the wedding ceremony on the ice and watching the theatrical performance in the garden. Now the ice lamp garden festival has become a social and cultural phenomenon after 30 years’ development, and it attracts more than 1 million of people to come here every year, just for appreciating the mystery and the magnificent of ice and snow art works in Harbin.
