Wong Tai Sin Temple, located on the southern side of Lion Rock in the north of Kowloon, is one of the most famous shrines in Hong Kong.

History:
Built in 1921, Wong Tai Sin Temple has remained a private shrine limited to only "Pu Yi Tan" Taoists and their family members until 1934, when the government opened the temple to the public during Chinese New Year. Temple historians often describe the shrine as a miraculous structure for surviving the Japanese occupation in the 1940s, relatively unscathed. After careful amendments for decades, the resplendent palace of the Wong Tai Sin Temple is in whole shape and has magnificent buildings.

Construction
Wong Tai Sin Temple buildings are magnificent and resplendent, the best showing of characteristics of Chinese classical temple. This temple occupies an area of 18,000 square meters. Besides the Great Buddha’s Hall, there is the Three-Saint Hall, the Taoist temple and so on. Among them, the most characteristic architectural arch fully demonstrates the Chinese traditional culture.

The architectural arch reading four big Chinese characters "Chisong Wong Tai Sin Temple" stands outside the temple. After signed solution file sharing and fortune teller fortune-telling booth, you will see another internal arch with the character "firs way to sky ", and then when stepping up, you can see another arch that read "Jin Hua Fen Shu". Each has its grand architectural features and significance.

Nine-Dragon Wall in Wong Tai Sin temple was built imitating the Nine-Dragon Wall of Beijing. The wall is engraved with poem written by the President of the Buddhist Association of China, thus adding more characteristics of traditional Chinese to Wong Tai Sin temple.

Besides the Great Buddha's Hall, the other buildings in the temple are also full of traditional features, such as the Three-Saint Hall dedicated Lu Zu (Dongbin), Kuan Yin and Guan Di, and hung the portrait of Confucius who is the teacher to all generation people. The temple has treasured up many Taoism, Buddhism and Confucian classics, which is said to fuse the thoughts of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism into one.

The long corridor of the Taoist temple was built imitating the one in the Summer Palace, Beijing, and there are also small bridge, waterside, water falls, two artificial lakes and a wide range of unique pavilions.

Tips:
Important temple activities:
1. Every time at the end of the Lunar Year and the first 15 days in January month of Lunar New Year, a large number of adherents come to the Wong Tai Sin Temple to reward Wong Tai Sin for his help in the past year and beg mercy and blessing for the coming year.
2. August 23 in the annual Lunar New Year is the birthday of Wong Tai Sin. All the disciples of Wong Tai Sin will come together at noon at the temple to participate in this festival, and the scene is jollification.
3. Wong Tai Sin Temple is the only temple which can hold the wedding in Taoism style in Hong Kong.
