Buses
The public bus system in Hong Kong is very modern and advanced, and there are one- storied buses and two-storied ones running through the city throughout the day, providing conveniences for the visitors from all over the world. 2. The non-individual lines
The non-individual line small-sized coaches are reddish yellow with the window displaying the price you should pay and the destination, which are also automatic with the ticket fare ranging from 2 HK $s to 20 HK $s according to the distances.
Taxis
The taxies are the best choice for the people who take the short distance trip in Hong Kong, which can be divided into distinctive colors according to different areas, for example: the taxies leaving for the city center and Kowloon are red; the ones leaving for New Territories are green and the ones leaving for Lantau Island are blue. All the taxies in the city can get to the airport.
1. The Red Taxies
The starting price of the red taxi is 18 HK $s for the first 2 kilometers (1.2 miles), later, you will be charged 1.5 HK $s every 0.2 kilometers (0.12 miles), and you will be charged 1.5 HK $s per minute if you want the driver to wait along the way. If you want to take a pet with you, you will be charged for 5 HK $s per one. Besides, you will be charged 5 HK $s every time you make an appointment with the driver through telephone. 2. The Green Taxies
The green taxies can only pick up passengers in New Territories area, and the starting price is 14.5 HK $s for the first 2 kilometers (1.2 miles), later, you will be charged 1.3 HK $s every 0.2 kilometers (0.12 miles), and you will be charged 1.3 HK $s per minute if you want the driver to wait along the way. Besides, you will be charged 4 HK $s every time you make an appointment with the driver through telephone. If you want to take a pet with you, you will be charged for 4 HK $s per one.
3. The Blue Taxies
The blue taxies can only pick up passengers in Lantau Island area, and the starting price is 13 HK $s for the first 2 kilometers (1.2 miles), later, you will be charged 1.3 HK $s every 0.2 kilometers (0.12 miles), and you will be charged 1.2 HK $s per minute if you want the driver to wait along the way. Besides, you will be charged 5 HK $s every time you make an appointment with the driver through telephone. If you want to take a pet with you, you will be charged for 5 HK $s per one.
Urban Rail Transit
There are 9 Urban Rail Transit routes in Hong Kong: Gangdao Route, Guantang Route, Quanwan Route, Jiangjun’ao Route, Disneyland Route, Dongyong Route, Dongtie Route, Xietie Road, Airport Route and Ma’anshan Route, which operates with the runtime from 6:00 am to 12:00 am every day, running every 1 minute, and you will be charged from 4 HK $s to 26 HK $s according to the distance, which are not only fast and convenient, but also comfortable. It is advisable for you to purchase the Octopus Card to pay the ticket fees, which will save you much time and money, and you can Deposit your money in the card in the automatic add-value machine at any time in the city. The cable cars
The cable cars are the main transportation vehicle from Central Ring to the top of Taiping Mountain, which operates every 10 minutes with the runtime from 7:00 am to 12:00 am in the following day each day, and the whole journey costs you 7 minutes with the ticket fare of 20 HK $s.
Light Transit Rail
As one of the world's most modern subway systems in the northwest part of New Territories in Hong Kong, the Light Transit Rail system provides Seamless linkage to the buses for the visitors, and the buses shuttle among different Light Transit Rail stations in New Territories area. For the visitors taking the Light Transit Rail, you can transfer subway on Yuanlang Station, Tianshuiwei Station and Zhaokang Station, and the visitors can take a subway or the Light Transit Rail with the Octopus Cards.
The tram cars
The tram cars in the city are slower compared with other transportation vehicles, however, the ticket fee is rather cheaper with 2 HK $s for the adults and 1 HK $ for the children, and you can fully appreciate the wonderful sceneries on the island by tram car, which is very nostalgic.
