Kashgar ancient city

As the birthplace of Uygur culture, Kashgar Ancient City lies in the center of Kashgar City in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, covering an area of 4.25 square kilometers (1.64 square miles) in total with a long history of more than 2,000 years, which is about one fifth of Kashgar City, and there are more than one fourth Uygur people living here from generations to generations.

Among the countries of the Western Region in the ancient times, Kashgar was the economic and political center with a large-scale architectural complex. The historical and cultural relics are mainly distributed in Kashgar Ancient City, featuring the excellent traditional folk residences and the old classic building in Islamic style.

The original forms of Kashgar Ancient City are preserved with more than 20 lanes, which are the only well-preserved labyrinths of passages featuring Islamic style in China now. The lanes and streets in the ancient city are interleaved with irregular architectures, but flexibly designed, which is centered with Id Kah Mosque spreading to all the directions. The folk residences are constructed with bricks and woods, which were built 100 years ago or even longer. Now Kashgar Ancient City is the religious center for the locals with more than 110 mosques of all sizes, which are connected to the bazaars, workshops and folk residences in the city. Each year the visitors from all over the world come here for traveling as well as religion.

Getting there:
It lies in the center of Kashgar City , so you can take a sightseeing bus to get there directly. It is open to the public throughout the day.
