Kunming Transportation

Kunming is one of important transportation hubs in western China; meanwhile, it is one first-class port city of China for Southeast Asian countries. For such adventurous position, Kunming has an extending transportation hinge.

Established in 10, 1922, Kunming International Airport (KMG) is the second airport of China. It has a volume of 16 millions passengers, listing Kunming the 6th in China and 15th in the world. There are more than 20 international routes for Seoul, Osaka, Bangkok, Singapore, etc. Besides, there are three district routes (for Hong Kong, Macao and Taipei) and about 140 routes for major cities in China.

Kunming New Airport, started in 2008, will be finished and used in 2011. After its completion, this airport will be China's fourth largest airport with the expected volume of 22 millions.

As the center of many railways, Kunming is an important railway junction of 12 railways, mainly including Chengdu-Kunming Railway, Guiyang-Kunming Railway, Nanning-Kunming Railway, Inner Kunming Railway, Queensland Railway and Queensland Grand River Railway. There are 82 couples start from Kunming Station to Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Nanning and other big cities in China.

In Kunming, there is a city road of 10000 kms running through the city. National Highways of No. 108、213、320、324、326 just pass through Kunming. Concerning to the transportation of inner city, the main transportation is by bus: 7 rapid transits, 205 bus lines, with a total quantity of 2.02 millions passengers. The Metro Planning has been completely marked out: six lines will be built with a total length of 162.6 kilometers. And this project has been started on 19, December, 2008.
