Located in the southeast corner of Norbu Lingka, Lhasa city, the Tibet Museum is known as Tibet's first museum with modern features. It covers an area of 53,959 square meters, with a total construction area of 23,508 square meters.Tibet Museum

History:
The construction project of the Tibet Museum was listed as one of the sixty-two "Aid-Tibet Projects" in July 1994. It opened in October 1999 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and the 40th anniversary of Tibet's Democratic Reform. And the former Chinese chairman Jiang Zemin inscribed the name for the Museum.

Structural features:
The museum building is a pioneering institution in the history of Tibet. Designed by a Han Chinese architect from Sichuan province, the complex is a wonderful combination of Chinese and Tibetan architectural styles.

The exhibition hall is a four-story building made of granite, marble and other materials, with an area of 10,451 square meters. It owns distinct characteristics of traditional Tibetan architectural art. The museum is equipped with modern facilities to ensure quality service for visitors and safety and efficient administration of the museum itself. Here exhibits are introduced in Japanese, English, Tibetan, and Chinese, in order to accommodate visitors from all over the world.

Followed by central axis, it lies the Office of the preamble, the main exhibition hall and heritage warehouse. The overall layout is structured strictly. Moreover, it has a distinctive feature of traditional Tibetan architectural art, and embodies the practical characteristics of modern architecture and artistic charm, containing its own unique architectural style.

Collective features and reputon:
The Tibet Museum has a rich collection of treasures, such as various types of prehistoric cultural relics, a variety of texture and shape of the Buddha, Buddha statues in different postures, imperial jade seals, gold albums, various printed Sanskrit and Tibetan scriptures, all kinds of musical instruments, religious objects. Visitors can also see variety of folk art such as unique Tibetan handicrafts, costumes, jewellery, and adornments made of gold, silver, and jade, as well as fine Chinese pottery.

On entering the Prelude Hall, visitors will immediately pay attention to the colourfully ornamented beams, pillars, lintels, banners and wall hangings. After that, visitors will see that the museum is actually sub-catalogued. The first catalogue includes two exhibition halls on the first floor, showing the splendid history of Tibet and its abundant natural resources, while the other catalogue is on the second floor and is comprised of five small exhibition halls that display Tibetan religion, folk custom, treasures, and arts and crafts.

The grand opening of the exhibition launched the basic display of "the history and culture of Tibetan", namely four parts of prehistoric culture, inseparable from the history, cultural arts and folk culture. The display was listed as one of the "Top 99 annual national exhibition displays fine," by the State Cultural Relics Bureau, China Association of Museums and the Chinese cultural relic's newspaper.

The selection of more than 1000 pieces of cultural relics on display is from the Tibetan history, culture, art, religion, folk customs, etc. The exhibition shows the audience visually the unique charm of the splendid Tibetan culture and long history.
