Zhanqiao Pier was built in the 18th year during the reign of Emperor Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1,616 A.D.-1,911 A.D.) and finished in 1893 with 200 meters (219 yards) long and 10 meters (11 yards) wide initially. Located at the No. 14, on the Taiping Road in Shinan District of Qingdao, opposite of the Little Qing Island, it extends from the shore to the sea, and so called “the Extended Rainbow on the Sea”. It is considered as the symbol of Qingdao officially and was enlisted as “the First Batch of National AAAA Level Scenic Spot in China” by the National Tourism Administration in 2001.
