Century Boulevard

The Century Boulevard stretches from the Oriental Pearl to the Century Park in Shanghai with 5.5 kilometers (3.4 miles) long and 100 meters (109 yards) wide, which is designed by the French company combing the French romantic style with the Oriental implicative and elegant style perfectly, and it functions as a city landscape boulevard in a magnificent style, so it is bestowed with the title of “the Oriental Avenue Des Champs-Elyses”.

The main features of the Century Boulevard is that the road cross sections are designed non-symmetrically, and the axis of the Century Boulevard is 10 meters (11 yards) to south instead of in the middle of the boulevard, so the central lines of the Dongfang Road and the Zhangyang Road can meet on the Century Boulevard, which deals with the comprehensive relationships of the human beings, transportation and architectures perfectly. It is also the first city landscape whose greening and the sidewalks are wider than the driveways. There are 12 driveways and the central greening belt on the boulevard, which connect Lujiazui Banking and Trading Zone, the New Shanghai Commercial City, the Bamboo Garden Commercial and Trade Zone, Huamu Administrative and Cultural Center together. The greening and the sidewalks on the boulevard are as wide as 69 meters (75 yards), among which the north part is 44.5 meters (49 yards) wide with 4 rows of trees standing, functioning preventing heat in summer and keeping warm in winter. The north part of the greening and sidewalks is 24.5 meters (27 yards) wide with 2 rows of trees standing, at the same time, there are 8 gardens are built along the north sidewalks, each of which is 180 meters (197 yards) long and 20 meters (22 yards) wide, and they are called the Willow Garden, the Metasequoia Garden, the Cherry Garden, the Crape Myrtle Garden, the Magnolia Denudata Garden Camellia Garden, the Redbud Garden and the Golden-Rain Tree Garden respectively, and each one has its own characteristics with topic-prominences.

The unique statues on the Century Boulevard make it the only boulevard in the world with the time as theme, among which the famous architecture on the street are the Oriental Light, the Century Morning Twilight, and there are some delicate columns, benches, guardrails and lamp posts along the boulevard, which are in the same color, becoming the symbolic color of the boulevard on the whole.
