Former Residence Lu Xun
As a historical relic under the protection of Shanghai government, the Former Residence Lu Xun is located in No. 9, on the Shanyin Road in Hongkou District of Shanghai, which is the first “museum” in memory of the famous people in China, displaying the original precious stuffs and writing devices of the owner.
The main features of the Former Residence Lu Xun
Covering an area of 78 square meters (93 square yards) with the architecture area of 222.72 square meters (266.37 square yards), the Former Residence Lu Xun is designed according to the traditional civilian residence of Shaoxing- Luxun’s hometown in Zhejiang Province, and there are more than 17,000 pieces of exhibits in the museum, introducing the development of Luxun’s thoughts and striving in a general way, especially in his last ten years spent in Shanghai.
It is a 3-storied building with the name of the museum “the Former Residence Lu Xun” written by the former Premier Zhou Enlai. There is a garden with peach trees, redbud trees and pomegranate trees planted in the front of the museum. The first floor can be divided into 2 parts: the living room in the front and the dining room in the rear, with a bookshelf and desk neighboring the west wall and clothes hanger neighboring the east wall. The second floor functioned as the bedroom and study of Luxun’s with an iron bed in the east, and there are a wardrobe, a tea table, two cane chairs and a mirror stand along the west wall, among which a foreign woodcut hangs over the mirror stand. There is a desk neighboring the south window with stationeries, cigarette utensil and a vase on the desk. There is a warehouse in the back room with a cabinet and a hanging basket in it. Behind the warehouse is the rest room. On the third floor is a small balcony, and this floor functioned as the rooms for the guests with a bedroom, desks and a book shelf in it. And there is a stair on this floor leading to the top of the building.

It is located in No. 9, on the Shanyin Road in Hongkou District of Shanghai, and you can take a bus No. 18, 21, 47, 51, 52, 70, 79, 97, 100, 101, 134, 139, 217, 222, 939, 502, 942, 508, 937, 529, 531, 537, 541, 552, 579, 592, 597, 828, 848, 853, 854, 863 and 875 to get there directly from the city center ; or you can take the subway Line 4 and 10 to get there directly. It is open to the public from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm every day.
