The main features of the Grand View Garden

The Grand View Garden is a large- scale archaized garden, which is designed according to the novel “A Dream of Red Mansions” by Chao Xueqin in the Qing Dynasty (1,616 A.D.-1,911 A.D.). Unlike the Grand View Garden in Beijing City, the Grand View Garden in Shanghai fully makes use of the gardening characteristics of the south of Yangtze River with a vast man-made lake in the garden, and there are more than 10 architecture groups with more than 20 scenic spots in the garden, which are centered with the man-made lake. The scenic spots are well connected by the ponds and the streams with bridge and pavilions over the water, displaying the traditional gardening art in the south of Yangtze River. With the Grand View Building as body architecture, the whole garden is composed a series of famous architectures mentioned in the novel “A Dream of Red Mansions”, and there are the Happy- Red Court, the Longcui Nunnery, the pear blossom court and the stone boat in the west part of the garden; there are the bamboo Hall, the Hengwu Court, the Smartweed Breeze Cot and the Rice-Fragrant Village in the east part of the garden. Besides, there are also 340,000 trees and bamboos of 250 species in the garden, including camphor trees, ginkgo trees, peach trees, osmanthus trees and bamboos.
