Jin Mao Building
Located in No. 88, on the Century Boulevard in Pudong New District of Shanghai, Jin Mao Building is the third tallest skyscraper in mainland China as well as the 8th tallest skyscraper in the whole world with Pudong New District in the east, the Huangpu River in the west and the Commercial and Trading Zong on the Zhangyang Road in the south, which started to built in 1994 and was finished in 1998, and it was designed by Chicago SOM architecture office from the US, combing the newest architecture fashion with the traditional Chinese architecture style. Now the building has become a milestone of Shanghai style architecture, combing the tourism, offices, entertainment, department stores, hotel and exhibition together as a whole.
The main features of Jin Mao Building
As the idealist place for office, banking, commence and restaurant in Shanghai, Jin Mao Building is 420.5 meters (1,380 feet) high in total with 93 stories, among which 88 stories are above the ground and 3 stories on the underground as well as the 3 stories on the top of the building, covering an area of 2.3 hectares (27,508 square yards) with the construction area of 290,000 square meters (346,837 square yards). There are as many as 130 elevators in the building. There are the office areas from the 3rd story to the 50th story, which are very spacious without any column; the electro-mechanical equipments are located from the 51st story to the 52nd story; there is the 5-star Jin Mao Kaiyue Grand Hotel from the 53rd story to the 87th story with 555 guest rooms and the Chinese and Western restaurants of different kinds. On the 87th story is a restaurant in the air, and there is a Sightseeing Hall on the 87th story with 340.1 meters (1,116 feet) above the ground, covering an area of 1,520 square meters (1,818 square yards), which can hold more than 1,000 visitors at the same time, and there are 2 high-speed elevators running at the speed of 9.1 meters (30 feet) a second, which will take you here from the first floor in 45 seconds, and you will have a panorama of the whole Shanghai.
There are also 3 stories on the underground with the construction area of 57,151 square meters (68,352 square yards), and there is a park here which can hold 800 cars as well as 2,000 bicycles at the same time.
Getting there:
It is located in No. 88, on the Century Boulevard in Pudong New District of Shanghai, and you can take a bus No. 82, 85 and 583 as well as subway Line 2 to get Lujiazui, and take a few minutes’ walk to get there directly. It is open to the public from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm every day.
