Oriental Pearl TV Tower
The Oriental Pearl TV Tower of Shanghai is located in Lujiazui Commercial Zone in Pudong District of Shanghai with 467.9 meters (1,535 feet) high above the ground, which is the tallest TV tower in Asia and the third tallest TV tower in the world, next to the CN TV tower with 553.3 meters (1,815 feet) in Canada and the Ostakino TV tower with 540.1 meters (1,772 feet) in Russia, which neighbors the Bund across the Huangpu River. It was built in 1991 and finished in 1994, which becomes a landmark of Shanghai now.

As the landmark as well as a new attraction of Shanghai, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower of Shanghai has become a comprehensive cultural tourism attraction in Shanghai, which combines the sightseeing, the restaurant, the shopping, the entertainment, the cruiser industry, the exhibition and the historical display as well as the radio and television emission as a whole, and it was bestowed with the title of “One of the First Batch of AAAA Attractions in China” by the National Tourism Administration of China. The whole tower is composed of the space capsule, the upper spheroid, the lower spheroid, the 5 little balls, the tower base and a square, which are supported by three giant columns with a diameter of 9 meters (9.8 yards), and the man body of the tower is as high as 350 meters (1,148 feet) above the ground. There are three 360-degree sightseeing stories in the tower, so the visitors can appreciate the landscapes of Shanghai in different heights, among which the main sightseeing story is 263 meters high (863 feet) above the ground and the other two ones are 259 meters (850 feet) and 90 meters (295 feet) above the ground respectively. Walking into the ground floor, you will see a magnificent grand hall there, and you can take a lift to the central spheroid in 40 seconds from there, which is 263 meters (863 feet) high with a diameter of 45 meters (49 yards), covering an area of 10,000 square meters (11,960 square yards). There is the highest rotating restaurant in Asia with a height of 267 meter (876 feet) above the ground, covering an area of 1,500 square meters (1,794 square yards), which can hold 350 visitors to have dinner at the same time, and it provides differen kinds of food from all over the world. The Space Amusement City is 90 meters (295 feet) high above the ground in the tower. In the grand hall of the ground floor is Shanghai History Development Exhibit Hall with the 6 exhibit halls in all. Besides, there are more than 1,000 types of delicate tourism souvenirs on the counter in each sightseeing story, which is just for your choice, and it receives more than 2.8 million people each year.
Getting there:
It is located in Lujiazui Commercial Zone in Pudong District of Shanghai, and you can take a bus No. 82, 85 and 583 as well as subway Line 2 to get Lujiazui, and take a few minutes’ walk to get there directly. It is open to the public from 8:00 am to 9:30 pm every day.
