Shanghai Grand Theater
As one of the symbols of Shanghai, Shanghai Grand Theater is located in No. 30, on the Renmin Road in Huangpu District of Shanghai, which is beautifully designed in structure combing the western architecture style and the traditional Chinese architecture style perfectly, and it is just like a crystal palace when the light is reflected by the combination of the white arched dome and the light perception glass curtain walls.
The main features of Shanghai Grand Theater
Shanghai Grand Theater covers an area of 62,803 square meters (75,112 square yards) with 40 meters (131 feet) high, and it can be divided into 10 floors in all, among which 2 floors are below the ground, 8 floors are above the ground with 2 floors are on the top of the theater. There are 1,800 seats in the grand playhouse of the theater, divided into 3 layers according to its visual structure, among which there are 1,100 seats on the main hall, 300 ones on the second layer and 400 ones on the third layer, so the audiences can fully appreciate the performance from a three-dimensional perspective, and it is called the “French Style Structure” by the experts. The middle- sized playhouse is on the first floor of the theater, which can hold more than 600 audiences at the same time, and it is well decorated with comfortable chairs, so it is very suitable for holding all kinds of small-sized art performance and meetings. The small sized playhouse in the theater is on the 5th floor, covering an area of 400 square meters (478 square yards), which can hold 300 audiences at the same time, and the playhouse can be flexibly designed according to the demand. Many small-sized fashion shows are often held in the playhouse as well as some small-sized performances.
Besides, there is a grand hall in the theater with an area of 2,000 square meters (2,392 square yards), which is very magnificent and beautiful with white as the dominant color, functioning as the recreational section for the audiences. The crystal pendant lamp hangs in the middle of the hall, which reflects mutually with the white crystal marble floors, and it seems as if you were walking into the world of music. Besides the performance functions, there is a sightseeing restaurant in the theater, covering an area of 1,600 square meters (1,914 square yards), which is well-equipped with supporting facilities such as café bar and a VIP hall.
Many dramas, ballet dancing, symphonies and operas have been successfully held in the theater since its opening in 1998, and the theater functions as the window to international culture and art communication now, attracting the visitors from all over the world each year.
Getting there:
It is located in No. 30, on the Renmin Road in Huangpu District of Shanghai, and you can take a bus No. 17, 20, 23, 37, 46, 48, 49, 71, 108, 109, 112, 123, 505 and 506 to get there directly from the city center, and you can take the subway Line 1, 2 and 8 to get there directly from the city center directly. It is open to the public from 8:30 am to16:00 pm every day.
