Shanghai Grand World

Located in the intersection of the Xizang South Road and the Yan’an East Road, Shanghai Grand World was built by Huang Chujiu in 1917 with a history of more than 90 years, and it was the most attractive entertaining place for the visitors with many theaters of different sizes as well as the open-air arenas and department stores here. The architectures in Shanghai Grand World are uniquely distributed with 3 main 4-storied building and 2 affiliated buildings connected one another, covering an area of 6,000 square meters (7,175 square yards) with the construction area of 14,700 square meters (17,581 square yards), which are composed of yellowish multi-layer hexagonal spires in a western style on the top of the buildings, supported by 12 big columns, however, the inner distribution of these architectures is in the traditional Chinese style. The main buildings are well connected by 100-meter (106 yards) long overpasses with rockeries and flower beds in the north part as well as the fountain and waterfalls.

The amusement center of Shanghai Grand World is composed of 4 parts; the Amusement World, the Expo World, the Competition World and the Gastronomic World, launching 8 series of entertaining programs, especially the “the Grand World Arena” and “the Guinness Record Arena” launched in 1990s attract the folk stunt elites from all over the world to come here for competition, creating more world records in the amusement center. Now Shanghai Grand World preserves its traditional characteristics on one hand, and it adds some participating and entertaining programs for the visitors on the other hand, including the performing theaters, the concert halls and the competitive arenas. It is located in the intersection of the Xizang South Road and the Yan’an East Road, and you can take a bus 127, 71, 48, 49, 1, 17, 18, 23 and 980 to get there directly from the city center; you can take the rail transit Line 1, 2 and 8 as well as the subway Line 1, 2, 8 to get there directly.
