Shanghai History Museum

Located in No. 1286, on the Hongqiao Road of Shanghai, Shanghai History Museum was built in 1983 with its initial name of “Shanghai Culture Relic Exhibition Museum”, which is open to the public in 1984 as a topographical museum aiming at introducing the history of Shanghai in the past 100 years, and it is bestowed with the title of “Shanghai Patriotism Education Base” in 2003.

The main features of Shanghai History Museum

Shanghai History Museum can be divided into 6 parts, which exhibits more than 30,000 culture relics in the museum, including the ancient historical culture relics and the modern historical culture relics, reflecting the great changes in economy, politics, culture and society of Shanghai since its opening to the world in the forms of culture relics, documents, archives and pictures as well as the advanced video and audio devices. The culture relics in the museum can be classified into 15 types: the paintings and calligraphies, the metal, the porcelains, the handcrafts, the identification badges, the documents, the presswork, the textiles, the stone inscriptions, the money, the photos, the paper cuttings, the stamps, the disks and the complex type, among which the famous culture relics are as follows: the pair of bronze lions from the gate of the former Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, the iron cannon-“Armstrong” from the former Jiangnan Manufacture General Bureau, the boundary monument of Britain and American leased territories as well as the signboard of Hongyunlou, providing a window for the visitors to know the history of Shanghai。

Getting there:

It is located in No. 1286, on the Hongqiao Road of Shanghai, and you can take a bus No. 72, 73, 251 and 911 to get there directly from the city center. It is open to the public from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm every day.
