With its initial name of Western Suburb Zoological Park, Shanghai Zoological Park is located in No.2381, on the Hongqiao Road in Changning District of Shanghai, which is the second largest national-level zoo in China, covering an area of 743,000 square meters (888,621 square yards) with the exhibit area of 47,237 square meters (56,495 square yards), and it is considered “One of the Top 10 Zoos in China”.Shanghai Zoological Park

The main features of Shanghai Zoological Park

There are more than 6,000 rare animals of 620 species exhibiting in the park now, which are collected from all over the world. The green area in the park covers an area of 498,200 square meters (595,842 square yards) with more than 100,000 trees, among which there is a vast lawn with 100,000 square meters (119,599 square yards). There are not only the animals from China, for example: the pandas, the golden monkeys, the peacocks and Southern China tigers, but also there are animals from foreign countries, for example: the gorillas, chimps and giraffes from Africa, the kangaroos from Australia, the polar bears from the North Pole and the Penguins from the South Pole, among which there are 5 gorillas in the park, and the number of the gorillas ranks No. 1 among the zoos throughout China. The main attractions in the park are: the Amphibians and Reptile Hall, the Chimp Ecological Exhibit Hall, the Asian Elephant Exhibit Hall, the giraffe Exhibit Hall, the Subtropical Herbivore Ecological Garden, the Herbivore Exhibit Hall, squirrel monkey ecological garden, the Panda Mountain, the Tiger Mountain, the Pole Bear Exhibit Hall, the Wading Bird Ecological Garden, the Swan Lake, the Parrot Exhibit Hall, the Flamingo Exhibit Hall, the Penguin Pond, the Peacock Exhibit Hall and the Butterfly Exhibit Hall as well as the leopard house.

The green area in the park is very unique, which complements perfectly with the ecological environment of zoological zoo. And the sceneries in the park change with the seasons throughout the year: the flowers are in full bloom in spring, the trees and the grasses are verdant in summer, the trees turn yellow and the leaves fall in autumn, and you can appreciate the green pine tree and the bamboos in winter, which gives you an unforgettable impression. It attracts more and more visitors from all over the world to come here for sightseeing and researches.

Getting there:

It is located in No.2381, on the Hongqiao Road in Changning District of Shanghai, and you can take a bus No. 48, 91, 57, 911, 709, 739, 519, 936, 925, 938, 941, 831, 807 and 809 as well as subway Line 10 to get there directly. It is open to the public from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm every day between November and February, from 5:00 am to 5:30 pm every day between March and October, from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm every day.
