Xintiandi

As a famous tourism attraction of Shanghai, Xintiandi is actually a commercial walking street combing restaurants, entertainment and culture as one, located in the center of the city with Huaihai Central Road in the south, which integrates the western architecture style with the Chinese architecture style perfectly.

The main features of Xintiandi

Covering an area of 30,000 square meters (35,880 square yard) with the construction area of 60,000 square meters (71,759 square yards), Xintiandi can be divided into two parts: the south part and the north part. The south part features the modern architectures with the old architectures in Shikumen as complement, covering an area of 25,000 square meters (29,900 square yards), and it is composed of the modern shopping center, the entertainment center and the recreation center, which began to start business in 2002. Different types of store from all different countries are located here with products from all over the world, including the fashion shops, the jewelry stores, the gastronomic plazas, the theaters and fitness centers, providing a multi-functional place for the visitors, which are favored by the people very much. The north part is composed of many old houses, which are well-decorated with the modern equipment inside, most of which function as high-grade consumption places such as clubs and restaurants. The site of the first congress of the Communist Party of China is located between the north part and the south part of Xitiandi.

There is the greenbelt of Taiping Bridge Garden and a man- made lake near Xintiandi, among which the greenbelt covers an area of 44,000 square meters (52,624 square yards) with tall trees in it. The man-made lake is built in the garden with an area of 12,000 square meters (14,352 square yards), dotted with two small isles at each end of the lake, which are called the Yulan Island and the Hehuan Island respectively, and there is a grand fountain in the middle of the lake A road –the Hubin Road is built in the north of the greenbelt, which connects the architectures in Shanghai-style architecture in Shikoumen well. There are many international art galleries, theme café bars and pubs here as well as the western restaurants, which is very romantic and exotic for the visitors.

Getting there:

It is located in the center of the city with Huaihai Central Road in the south, and you can take a bus No. 146, 781, 911, 926 and 42 and subway Line 1 and 146 as well as Channel 8 to get there directly from the city center, and it is open to the public all day.
