Zhujiajiao Town
With the title of “the Venice City of Shanghai”, Zhujiajiao Town is located in the central south of Qingpu District of Shanghai with Dianshan Lake Scenic Spot in the west and Diandong of Kunshan City in the north, and it is 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) away from Qingpu Town in the east with 48 kilometers (30 miles) away from Shanghai, covering an area of 49.8 square kilometers (19.2 square miles), and the National Road No. 318 runs through the whole town like a huge dragon. It is also the best preserved ancient water town in southern Yangtze River, which was bestowed with the title of “One of the Four Historical and Cultural Ancient Towns in China” by Shanghai Government in 1991.
The main features of Zhujiajiao Town
Zhujiajiao Town has a long history with pure and sincere folkway and profound culture. As early as 5,000 years ago, the human beings had lived here according to archeology; there was scattering villages in this town during the Three Kingdoms (220 A.D- 280 A.D.); and it became a prosperous town with the merchants gathering during the Wanli Period in the Ming Dynasty (1,368 A.D.-1,644 A.D.), so the visitors can still appreciate the streets and architectures in the ancient Ming (1,368 A.D.-1,644 A.D.) and the Qing (1,616 A.D.-1,911 A.D.) style. There are many places of interests in the town, for example: the Captive Animal Freeing Bridge, the Yixian Street, the Chenghuang Temple, the Kezhi Garden and the Yuanjin Buddhist Temple, creating a profound culture atmosphere in the town. As a matter of fact, Zhujiajiao Ancient Town is rich in bridges, lanes and corners, which foster many elites in different fields of the society, and there are many famous corners in the town, for example: the Perking Opera Corner, the Singing Corner, the Literature Corner, the Painting and Calligraphy Corner, the Morning Tea Corner and the Fitness Corner, all of which are organized by the local people willingly. Besides, there are many book collections in the town, fully displaying the profound culture connotation of the town. Now the town has become the work of flower in the back garden of Shanghai.
Getting there:
It is located in the central south of Qingpu District of Shanghai, and you can take a bus No. 1 to get there directly from the city center. It is open to the public throughout the day.
