Yumen Pass on Great Wall of China

Yumen Pass is famous for importing jades from Western Region in Western Han Dynasty, located in the northwest of Dunhuang in Gansu Province, which was a communication line of the Silk Road, known as“First Strategic Pass under Heaven”. Now you can appreciate vast views of the Gobi Desert, Visionary Castle in the Air and the vegetations in the desert, these sceneries together with the blue sky, the desert, and the green grass constitute a vast sublime mysterious picture, among which the Great Wall and the Balefire Stage are well reserved.

Best Time to Yumen Pass

With a continental climate, the temperature in Dunhuang changes much all year round. Its annual average temperature is 9.3ºC. Its hottest month is July with an average temperature of 24.7ºC and its coldest month is January with an average temperature of -9.3ºC, the best time to visit it is from May to October, and it is open to visitors from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day.

Transportation to Yumen Pass

There are regular buses from city center to get there together with over 300 taxies and tricycles that are at your service in 24 hours; of course, you can rent a travel bus with your teammates if you like.

Eating & Accommodation

The local people like eating mutton, beef and cooked wheat food, there is a street in Yangguan with all kinds of delicacies and snacks with a lower price, of course, there are more than 100 hotels and restaurants in the city with good conditions and reasonable price, the average price of hotel for one night is 50 yuan. There are some famous superstores in the city: Feitian Superstore, Tianma Superstore, Shazhou Superstore selling all kind of food and specialties as well as craftsmanship, some of which are on discount and you can cut price to buy.
