The Guanqian Street is the busy downtown area of Suzhou City. The compact mass shops along the street have greatly satisfied people's shopping demand in an early age. Some of shops even cover a history of over 100 years. People will easily guess what they have only by hearing their name.

The fact that the Guanqian Street has attracted a great man people are closed related to the environment around it, especially the Taijian Lane and Beiju. The Taijian Lane is famous for its numerous eateries. As early as in the 1930s, there had been some large restaurants setting there. And after liberation, especially after the opening-up policy, the eatery service got developed and was named as the"Suzhou food street"

The street was broadened several times after 1930 and now the road is much wider than before. It is very cool walking along it in summer for planting with plane trees standing on both sides of the street. In June 1982, the street was improved to be a walking street. Then night market was open up. When night is falling, strings of pearlescent lights are lit up, like two shining dragons lying on two sides. And on the stalls display all kinds of wares, including clothes, head ornaments, shoes and hats, fruits and snacks, bonsai and so on.

People after supper wonder along the street with ease, enjoy the night scene, or stop in the stalls, bargaining with the venders. All well display a flourishing and busy world of Suzhou.
