East Lake

Surrounded by green mountains with meandering Lake Shoreline, East Lake is the biggest city lake in China. Covering an area of 72 square kilometers (28 square miles) with the water area of 33 square kilometers (13 square miles), Donghu Lake is famous both in home and abroad for its unique natural sceneries and profound Chu culture.

The major scenic spots of East Lake are the Tingtao (Listening -to –Tide), Mo Hill (Millstone Hill), Luoyan (Diving Wild Goose), and Chuidi (Flute- Playing). Many plants are planted in the park, with the flowers blooming throughout the year, among which the most famous ones are the orchids in spring, the lotuses in summer, the osmanthus flowers in autumn and the plum blossoms in winter.

Tingtao (Listening -to –Tide)

Located in the northwest part of Guozheng Lake, the Tingtao Scenic Spot initially functions as a private garden, including Troubadour Pavilion, Qu Yuan Memorial Hall, Changtian Tower and Chufeng Garden as well as Yihai Bathing beach in the area.

Mo Hill (Millstone Hill)

There are two featured scenic spots at Mo Hill, the Chu Culture Area and the Botanical Garden. Chu Culture Area includes Chutian Platform and the Philosopher Garden. The Botanical Gardens in the Mo Hill characterized by abundant plants, among which the famous ones are the Plum Garden and the Flowering Cherry Garden.

Luoyan (Diving Wild Goose)

Luoyan Tourism Attraction Area is in the east part of East Lake. There are more than 30 famous ancient trees in this area, which have high ornamental value and medical value. There are many different kinds of birds living peacefully in this area for the exceptional ecological environment in this area.

 Chuidi (Flute- Playing)

There are 6 villages and 17 mountains of different sizes scattering in the Flute- Playing Tourism Attraction Area. Covered by green forest, the highest mountain-Ma’an Mountain is 136 meters (446 feet) high above the sea level. Many legends about the famous figures living on the mountain have passed down from one generation to another.
