Hubei Provincial Museum
Hubei Provincial Museum offers a detailed record of Hubei Province’s history that cannot be found anywhere else. The extensive collections tell stories from thousands of years ago to the present day. More than 200,000 pieces of culture relics are preserved and exhibited in the museum, among which 640 pieces are National Level I culture relics and 16 pieces are National Treasures. Most of the culture relics are collected from archaeological excavation, which are characterized by local style. The culture relics are comprised of potteries, porcelains, bronze wares, lacquers, wood artifacts weapons, musical instruments, ancient coins, paintings and calligraphies. Some very special objects are the Skull Fossil from Yunxian County, Zeng Houyi Chime Bells, the Sword of Gou Jian- Monarch of the Kingdom of Yue and the Blue-and White Porcelain with Four Patterns from the Yuan Dynasty (1,206 A.D.-1,368 A.D.). More than 10 exhibitions are held in the museum for the visitors, introducing the long history and glorious culture of Hubei Province to the visitors in a vivid way. The 10 exhibitions are the Chu Culture Exhibition, the Man from Yun County, the Tomb of Marquis Yi of the Zeng State, the Art of Lacquered Article Exhibition from the Qin (221 B.C.-206 B.C.) and the Han Dynasties (206 B.C-220 A.D.), Records on Jiuliandun and the Ancient Porcelain Thematic Exhibition respectively. The culture relics in the museum not only have high historical value, but also they have high cultural and scientific value. Now the museum has become the window for opening up to the world and the patriotism education base for the young, attracting more than 100,000 visitors every year.
