Likeng Village

Located 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) in the northeast of Wuyuan City, Likeng is actually an ancient village with the people with Surname Li as the majority, built during 1,010 in the Northern Song Dynasty (960 A.D.-1,127 A.D.) and surrounded by mountains, which is famous for its natural scenic spots and culture relics. There is a river flowing through the village, with a vast rape fields in the front of the river and the Hui-style civilian residential architectures at the back of the river, which reflect each other perfectly in an idyllic way.

The main features of Likeng tourism

The architectures in Likeng are uniquely designed with Hui-style in the village, which create a serene and harmonious atmosphere for the whole village. The civilian residences are distributed unevenly along the river with pink walls and green tiles, among which there are famous well-preserved ancient architectures in the Ming (1,368- A.D.-1,644 A.D.) and Qing (1,616 A.D.-1,911 A.D.) style, for example: the Magistrate of Guangzhou Yu Ziyi’s Wardroom in the reign of Emperor Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1,368- A.D.-1,644 A.D.), the President of Ministry of Personnel Yu Maoheng’s “Tian-Guan-Shang-Qing” Mansion in Tianqi period in the Ming Dynasty (1,368- A.D.-1,644 A.D.), the Right-President of the Financial Institution Yu Maoxue ‘s “Shangshu Mansion” in Wanlin period in the Ming Dynasty (1,368- A.D.-1,644 A.D.), the Sima (a high official title) Yu Weishu’s “Sima Mansion” in the reign of Emperor Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1,616 A.D.-1,911 A.D.) and the famous tea merchant Yu Xianhui’s “Yiyu Hall” as well as “Yunxi Villa” and “the Flower Hall”. All of these are scientifically designed with cool air in summer and warm air in winter, which are the excellent examples of ecological civilization as well as a museum park of architecture arts.

There are slab streets paved with blue stones in an interlacing mode in the village, shining with dim luster in the sun, and it seems as if you are in another world walking along the street. And there are lots of ancient teahouses and hotels along the river, so it is really a joy to watch the fines views outside the teahouses. Besides, there are more than 10 bridges connecting the streets and lanes well with rivers flowing under the bridges. Of course, there are such attractions as the Bell-Ringing in the Temple and the Moon in Spring Jiao in the village, which are very picturesque, and the village has become a Shining Pearl of Wuyuan tourism attractions as well as one of the 100 Folk Culture Villages throughout China now.

Besides, there are two famous ancient trees in the village: one is a sweet-scented osmanthus tree with 11 meters (31 feet) high and 0.91 meters (36 inches) wide, which is very fragrant during the Middle-Autumn Day; and the other one is an ancient Crape Myrtle tree, which is still blooming though its trunks and leaves wither after 500 years.

Getting there:

Likeng is located 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) in the northeast of Wuyuan City, and you can take a bus for Jiangwan or Xiaoqi from Wuyuan City, and stop at Likeng Village.
