Tang Lotus Park
Tang Lotus Park is the largest cultural theme park in Northwest China and is next to Great Wild Goose Pagoda in the Qujiang New District of Xi’an. It is the first imperial park in China that fully displays the styles and features of the Tang Dynasty in a variety of dimensions. Tang architectures of all kinds are available in the park, including pavilions, terraces, bridges, corridors, palaces, and towers, acting like an encyclopedia of the era’s architectural styles.
The main scenic spots in the park are Purple Cloud Tower, Maiden Hall, Imperial Feast Hall, Fragrant Forest Garden, Apricot Garden, Luyu Teahouse, Tang Market, and Fengmingjiutian Theater. Covering an area of 100,000 square meters, Tang Lotus Park is composed of 14 scenic zones: the Imperial Culture Zone, Feminism Culture Zone, Poetry Culture Zone, Imperial-Examination Culture Zone, Tea Culture Zone, Singing and Dancing Culture Zone, Food Culture Zone, Folk Custom Culture Zone, Diplomatic Culture Zone, Buddhist Culture Zone, Taoist Culture Zone, Children Entertainment Zone, Gate Culture Zone, and Water Performance Zone. Each of these sections fully showcases the incomparable achievements in culture and art during the magnificent Tang Dynasty. As such, Tang Lotus Park has been named “The Spiritual Home of Human Beings” and “The Garden of Arts,” symbolizing the continuous rise and development of the Chinese people.
1. Imperial Culture Zone
Purple Cloud Tower is a representative 4-storied architecture in the Imperial Culture Zone, where each story vividly demonstrates the Tang imperial culture from a distinctive perspective. On the first floor, there are exhibits of sculptures, frescos, and a reconstructed model of the city of Xi’an as it looked during the Zhenguan Period of the Tang Dynasty. On the second story, there are displays of large colored sculpture clusters, reflecting the feasts and celebrations screens of the emperor and his courts. The third story serves as a multi-functional performance hall where imperial singing and dancing performances are held. The forth and final story functions as a hall for recreation.
2. Singing and Dancing Culture Zone
Fengmingjiutian Theater in the Singing and Dancing Culture Zone is a modern imperial theater filled with the charms of the Tang Dynasty, also known as the Glorious Age. The most impressive program shown in the theater is the drama, “Dreaming of Returning to Tang Dynasty,” directed by the most famous domestic artists. The performance displays the magnificent and splendid momentum of the Tang Dynasty with the help of modern technologies such as flicking lights, and vivid costumes and enchanting music.
3. Food Culture Zone
The Imperial Feast Palace is a large-scale restaurant in the Food Culture Zone that integrates gourmet cuisine, fine wines, and beautiful music perfectly as one. Visitors get a chance to experience imperial life as it was in the luxurious palace, and taste the delicious imperial food.
4. Folk Custom Zone
Covering an area of 12,022 square meters, the Folk Custom Zone consists of Tang Market and Theater Square. Tang Market is actually an ancient street that offers sightseeing, entertainment, examples of tea culture, and recreation, thus reflecting the profound commercial culture of the Tang Dynasty. In Theater Square, many excellent performances are held regularly such as lion dancing, walking on stilts, acrobatics, and Shaanxi Opera.
5. Poetry Culture Zone
Tang poetry stands out like a shining pearl in the heritage of world culture. In the Poetry Culture Zone, a wide range of poems written in various styles are exhibited, all of which were created and written by famous poets from the Tang Dynasty, including Libai, Dufu, Bai Juyi, and Wangwei.
