Chexi Minority Custom Scenic Area
Covering an area of 7.7 square miles, Chexi Minority Custom Scenic Area stretches for 4.7 miles along the Yangzhe River and combines natural sceneries, culture relics, and folk customs perfectly as one, among which the folk customs are characterized by the ancient Ba and Chu cultures. It is a AAAA-Level Tourism Area in China as well as the only folk custom tourism area along the Three Gorges in the Hubei Province.
Magnificent mountains, rare stones, unique caves, and flying waterfalls are all present in Chexi Minority Custom Scenic Area. It is composed of 8 scenic zones in total, namely Stone-Immortal Valley, Ba-Chu Homeland Garden, Calyx Canthus Garden Valley, Farmer Household Museum, Baota Valley, Tianlongyun Cave, Wind Cave, and Sorrow-Forgotten Valley.
The main features of Chexi Minority Custom Scenic Area can be described as: one style, two unique natural wonders, three cultural attributes, and four tourism functions. Its natural and primitive style makes it seem just like a fairyland. The two unique natural wonders refer to its geological resource and plant resource; Tianyunlong Cave is the essence of Chexi natural sceneries, and the natural lotus petal in Lotus Cave has the distinction of being one of the main exclusives in the Three Gorges. The three cultural attributes refers to the Folk Singing and Dancing Appreciation, Sowing and Reaping Exhibit, and Ancient Workshop Performance. Finally, the four tourism functions refer to the areas named Adventure Travelling, Scientific Traveling, Recreational and Resort Traveling, and Folk Custom Traveling.
Leaving the bustling cities, guests can walk into the scenic area with full appreciation for the simple pleasure of returning to nature. The Ba-Chu Homeland Garden shows a paper-making workshop, bean curd workshop, and textile workshop, letting visitors experience the working life of the ancient Ba-Chu people. Also for appreciation is the Sowing and Reaping Exhibit in the scenic area where one can learn about the slash-and-burn agriculture civilization in ancient times. In the evening, many enjoy participating in the Bonfire Party, getting together with the locals, and enjoying the traditional folk singing and dancing.
Travel tips
Address: Tucheng Village, Dianjun District, Yichang, 18 kilometers from the city center
Bus routes: Take a bus in the direction of Tucheng Village from the city center and get off at the gate of the scenic spot. The Three Gorges Stone Forest Tourism Area and the Yellow-Bull Rock Tourism Area are also accessible by bus.
